In Gratitude: Diana Varzan de Laufer
2018 Yakir Keren Hayesod Award recipient
Diana Varzan de Laufer is a clinical psychologist who has been in private practice in Asunción, Paraguay for the past 30 years. After graduating from the Catholic University Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, she worked at the Clinical Hospital of Asunción and taught at the Autonomous University of Paraguay.
Actively involved in Keren Hayesod since 2003, she has served as president since 2008. She absorbed her commitment to the organization from her father, Efraím Varzan, a lover of Israel and Judaism, who was also an active leader and president of Keren Hayesod in Paraguay for many years.
As a girl, Diana was active in the Hanoar Hatzioni youth movement and spent one year as a volunteer on Kibbutz Ein Hashlosha in the Negev. She remains deeply committed to Jewish education: She is still involved in Hanoar Hatzioni and spearheaded the construction of the new Hanoar Hatzioni House in Asuncion. From 1997 to 2005, she was a member of the board of directors of Colegio Estado de Israel, the Jewish school in Paraguay, and served as president of the board for several years.
Diana and her husband, Gabriel de Laufer, are the proud parents of three children: Einat, Ariel and Nathan.
