Dear Friends of Keren Hayesod,
As some Israelis are looking to leave Israel for their big summer vacation, hundreds of Jews from around the world are spending their summer vacations packing for their big move to Israel. This summer, hundreds of people from around the world will embark on their Aliyah journey and leave behind their families and communities in order to call Israel home.
Despite the ongoing pandemic, this year, thousands of Jews from around the world are making Aliyah to Israel.
Recently, 160 Jews from France made Aliyah to Israel on a special flight from Paris. Among these new immigrants were doctors, lawyers, teachers, engineers, and marketing and media professionals. Of the 160 new immigrants, 46 of them are under the age of 18 and will soon be starting the school year in the Israeli school system.
Keren Hayesod’s World Chairman, Sam Grundwerg, together with Israel’s Minister of Aliyah and Integration – Pnina Tamano-Shata, and the Chairman of the World Zionist Organization and Acting Chairman of the Executive of The Jewish Agency for Israel – Yaakov Hagoel were on the ground at Ben Gurion International Airport to greet the new immigrants and welcome them home!
Additionally, 61 new immigrants from Argentina arrived in Israel two weeks ago, and last week more immigrants arrived from South Africa thanks to the support of Keren Hayesod, the Jewish Agency for Israel and Israel’s Ministry of Aliyah and Integration.
Settling in a new country can be extremely difficult for many reasons. For the new immigrants arriving in Israel, many of them come without being able to speak Hebrew. Thankfully, there are programs like Ulpan Etzion, a Keren Hayesod-supported project, which is Israel’s flagship intensive Hebrew learning program for new immigrants.
In another exciting turn of events, one-third of Israel’s delegation at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics are new Olim, having made Aliyah to Israel from different countries around the world.
Israel has won two gold medals at the Tokyo Summer Olympics! The first medal was won by Artem Dolgopyat, who took first place in men’s artistic gymnastics and the second was won by Linoy Ashram, who took home the gold in the women’s rhythmic gymnastics individual all-around competition. Two bronze medals were also won – one was by Israel’s Judo team and the other was by Avishag Semberg for women’s Taekwondo!
The people of Israel are so proud of you both!

Later this summer more immigrants are expected to make Aliyah to Israel and Keren Hayesod is awaiting their arrival!
